In 2014 he made his Broadway debut in the play All the way of which the production won the Tony Award for Best Play. Harper was cast in the comedy The Good Place in 2016. His performance in The Good Place. he received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2020.In 2018 he voiced John Mercer Langston in season one of the Airship podcast
